Why I'm Building a Home for My Tech Stories

Tired of valuable tech adventures getting lost in the digital void, I've started "The Odyssey of Gaurav." This isn't just another tech blog, it's my personal logbook for documenting the full journey—the learning, the challenges, and the discoveries—behind every project.

Every adventure deserves a proper story, but most of mine were getting lost in the digital void.

You know that feeling when you stumble across an interesting technology, dive deep, put yourself all in, learn a ton, and build something awesome? I found myself doing this repeatedly. I’d get completely absorbed in a new framework, a hardware project, or some fascinating problem space. But after a few months, it was like it never happened. The code might still exist somewhere, but the story - the real journey of learning and discovery - was gone. I recently saw the power of proper documentation myself, my simple-hyprland doc helped me set up my system in minutes, which used to take hours. This showed me that while I often remember how I solved things, repeating the process without notes is a pain. Plus, if someone asks for help, sharing it easily through this blog would be great for everyone.

Platforms like GitHub are great for storing code, but it doesn’t capture the narrative. LinkedIn posts disappear in the feed. Documentation tells you what, but rarely why. I needed something different - a space that could be molded to tell complete stories, not just showcase end results. Also I often find there’s some pressure to write in ways specific to each platform. This gives me independence to be authentically me.

Why “The Odyssey of Gaurav”

This idea of documenting my work properly had been on my mind for a while. Then, suddenly, I got a free domain (I’ll explain more about this in the technical breakdown of the site! - Checkout here), and “The Odyssey of Gaurav” just began.

I went through countless name options. “GB’s Blog,” “Gaurav Bankar’s Tech Journal,” and dozens of other variations. Nothing felt right. Then I stumbled across “Odyssey,” and it felt like home.

An odyssey isn’t just a journey - it’s an epic adventure filled with discovery, challenges, and transformation. “The Odyssey of Gaurav” felt grand and totally justifying of what I wanted this to be. This isn’t just another tech blog with tutorials and hot takes. This is my personal expedition through the tech landscape, my way of being a small but authentic part of this incredible community.

The timing also worked out well. I just finished my graduation, and suddenly I have more “me time” than I’ve had in a while, there’s something freeing about this transition. I’m currently looking for new opportunities, and this gives me dedicated time to dive deeper into interesting projects and personal growth. This blog feels like the start of a new chapter.

With everything lining up, holding off on this any longer just didn’t feel right. I also aspire to be more active on other platforms, sharing this journey across different spaces. But this - this will always be home base.

What This Space Will Be

Think of this as my digital logbook. A place where I document not just what I built, but why I built it, how I figured things out, what went wrong, and what I learned along the way. Whether it’s diving into a new programming language, building hardware projects, or exploring the intersection of technology and creativity - you’ll find the complete story here.

This Odyssey is meant to be a journey that changes and grows, adding or removing things as needed. In the long run, I hope it becomes a space for fellow travelers – people who are always experimenting and learning, not limited by their work or anything else. While I’m not immediately adding a comment section right now (that might change if the Odyssey demands it!), I hope you’ll read and observe, and maybe even teach me a thing or two.

Join the adventure

So here we are, at the beginning of something that feels both exciting and slightly terrifying. I’m inviting you to follow along, to be part of this odyssey. Share your own experiences, challenge my thinking, teach me new things.

After all, the best adventures are the ones where you discover not just new territories, but new perspectives along the way.

Welcome to “The Odyssey of Gaurav”. Let’s see where this journey takes us.
